9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency dominated goal score in the Men’s football and emerged champions of the Inter AC Sports meet of the Nationalist Democratic Political Party (NDPP), Kohima Region at IG Stadium on June 24. The teams scored 7, 6 and 3 goals in the three matches played today securing a hat-trick in the semis by striker Metekhrielie Mejura (Jersey 20). 

Heads on against CM XI Team in the finals, Kohima Town AC quickly scored a stunning goal in the 6th minute. Although CM XI made tough defense, the 2nd goal made an indomitable entry in the 19th minute. Another goal came in the 9th minute of the 2nd series in favour of Kohima Town AC. 

The champions pocketed Rs 50,000 and runners up Rs 35,000 

In the first matches, 14 Southern I, 9 Kohima Town AC, CM XI and 10 Northern I AC qualified for the semis. 

14 Southern-I lost to CM XI Team in the first match of the semi finals with a goal in their favour. In the 2nd semi final match, 9 Kohima Town thrived with 6 goals for the team pocketing 5 goals in the first half and 1 in the 2nd rendering 10 Northern 1 AC nil. 

In the women's Volleyball, 15 Southern Angami II emerged champions and 14 Southern Angami I was declared runners up. The winners walked home with Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively. 

8 teams from the 6 Assembly Constituency including 8 Western Angami, 9 Kohima Town, 10 Northern Angami I, 11 Northern Angami II, 14 Southern Angami I and 15 Southern Angami II and CM XI and Kohima Region team vied for the trophies.

Dr Neikiesalie Kire, MLA, 9th Kohima Town AC and Advisor Urban Development and Municipal Affairs delivering a short speech opined that party should meet more often so that understanding can be built among party workers. The Advisor said it will pave way for developing and quality work for the society. While encouraging the workers to come out and speak for one's own constituency, he said it was time to start moving for the party in view of the approaching general elections. Kire also assured that NDPP will vouch for progress and prosperity of the people if vote back to power in the coming elections.

During the closing function, Zhaleo Rio, Advisor, Excise, Sericulture and Minority Affairs handed over the prizes to the winners.  Zhaleo said that although Nagas in general are all sports lovers and 90% of us can play one sports or the other, he lamented that we were yet to make a mark in the national and international level in many fields although a few are coming up gradually. He hoped that professional sportspersons come up in the near future. 

With regard to politics, he observed that interesting developments have recently occurred which for NDPP party had been advantageous foremostly the merger of 21 NPF MLAs with NDPP. With regard to Kohima, the Advisor said reorganization was going well. “Such positive feats, should set precedence for other districts as well,” he pointing while adding that Kohima district continue to be a strong bastion for NDPP. As for erstwhile Dimapur Constituencies like Chümoukedima, he appealed for support for successfull political ventures.
