9th Open Basketball Tourney finals today

Morung Express News Kohima | May 26   Taurus, Werewolves, Amplified and Dorians remained undefeated in the league matches to enter the semifinals of the ongoing 9th Open Basketball Tournament here at the Kohima local ground on Friday.   Team Dorians defeated the two Mystic Ballers teams - A and B - to make its way into the semifinals of the tournament.   Basketball 1   Playing the second match of the day, Team Dorians from Dimapur edged The Mystic Ballers (TMB) - A, from Kohima Science College, Jotsoma by a point.   The game started on a promising note for the TMB, however by the third quarter the Dorians moved ahead by five points. Both teams displayed their best efforts but after a neck to neck play, Dorians made its way into the Semifinals winning 45-44.   Basketball 2   Match patron Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu, in his address on May 26 congratulated Sun City and NBA for organizing the tournament, in spite of difficulties and challenges.   Sports being the best medium to promote peace, unity and togetherness amongst the community across the globe, Dr. Keditsu expressed hope that Nagaland too will uphold sports with the same spirit.   Playing their second match and the last match of the day, Team Dorians beat Team Mystic Ballers ‘B’ 60-56 to book their semifinal berth.   Earlier, in the first match, Titans eased to a comfortable 67-48 win over Skyhooks.   In the other matches, Mission Giants went down fighting to Team Orca losing 60-66 while Team Taurus crushed Tiyi Hoppers 72-25 to book a semifinal berth.   Team Amplified put on an impressive all round display as they powered their way into the semis with a 94-65 win over Team Titans.   Werewolves also booked a semifinal berth as they beat Mission Giants 90-48 in the penultimate match of the day.   The closing day will be held on Saturday, May 27, with the first semifinals starting at 12 noon and the second at 1:00 pm.   At 2:00 pm, there will be a Three Pointers Shooting competition.   At 5:00 pm, an exhibition match for sub-junior boys will be held.   The Finals will be held at 7pm with Member Nagaland Legislative Assembly Mhonlumo Kikon gracing the occasion as Guest of Honour.
