9th Silver Cup T20 Cricket Tourney begins

ESA Warriors, Kohima Hornbills, Royal Torniquets and Valour CC win

Kohima, March 27 (MExN): The 9th edition of Silver Cup T20 Cricket Tournament organised by Youth Department of Nepali Baptist Church Kohima got underway at Jakhama local ground on the theme “Peace and unity through cricket”.  

Gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest yesterday President of Kohima District Cricket Association, Atha C Angami encouraged the players saying cricket is a lucrative sport and there are enormous opportunities in cricket for hard-working players.  

The players need to have four things in order to get recognition and to achieve their goals i.e hard work, practice, physical fitness and determination.  

He highlighted that in Ranji trophy, the first eleven players of each state earns about Rs 1.6 lakh per match while they would earn more than 20 lakh a year.  

Stating that there were too many competition in cricket, he asked the players to expertise in at least two field’s i.e batting, bowling and fielding to be a successful player.   

The organisers informed that the players of Kohima district in the tournament who are under-23 will also be selected for U-23 selection trials to be held in Dimapur to represent Nagaland for BCCI matches.  

ESA Warrior defeated Komates CC by 178 runs in the inaugural match yesterday. ESA Warrior electing to bat first scored a mammoth target of 256 runs riding on two half-centuries by Sidhart Doshi 64 runs and Hem 58 runs, while Akangy took two wickets for Komates CC.  

Chasing the huge target, Komates bundled out for just 78 runs with Timothy contributing the highest with 26 runs. Hanilong took three wickets for Warrior.  

Sidhart Doshi of ESA Warrior was adjudged as the man of the match for scoring 64 runs.   I

n another match, SilverBacks got a walkover as defending champion Whiskers Cricket Club, Dimapur failed to turn up in time for the opening match.  

Meanwhile, in the matches played today, Kohima Hornbills defeated Midland Brotherhoods 79 runs.  

Kohima Hornbills won the toss and elected to Bat Setting a target of 178 in 17 overs with Moni contributing highest 51. Midland bowlers Rainü claimed 3 wickets while Poalenlal and Sashi took two wickets each.  

Midland Brotherhoods fell short of one run to reach the century mark with Chochom contributing highest 22 Runs.  

Kohima Hornbills bowlers Moa and Dito claimed three wickets each.  

Moni was declared man of the match for scoring 51 runs in 24 balls.  

Playing the second match, Royal Torniquets defeated Kingz CC by 2 wickets.  

Kingz CC won the toss and elected to bat setting a target of mere 86 runs. Nipu scored highest 33 runs for Kingz CC.  

Royal Torniquets achieved the target with Angshuman scoring highest 29. Kingz CC bowler Aso claimed five wickets. Man of the Match went to Angshuman for scoring 29 runs.  

In the last match of the day, Valour CC won against Silver White’s by 9 wickets. Electing to bat first, Silver White's scored the least 57 runs with Tesah scoring highest 14 runs, which was easily achieved by Valour CC losing only one wicket. Upender Rai scored highest 25 and was adjudged man of the match.
