KOHIMA (MExN): The Nagaland State Bharat Scouts & Guides today held a State Council meeting at its Life Members Building Conference Hall at Bayavu Hill, Kohima. The building is said to be the first building of its kind in India for the Scouts movement.
Dr. Shurhozelie, Minister, & President, Bharat Scouts & Guides graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.Dr Shurhozelie, in his Presidential Address dwelt on the importance of the role of Scouts and Guides in promoting all round intellectual, moral and spiritual requirements of the students especially through their practical trainings.
He stated that the effectiveness of imparting Scouts and Guides values in students has been internationally recognized, and that they had asked the department to include Scouts and Guides facilities in all schools of the state.He also mentioned that earlier about 800 teachers were especially trained for this purpose but that only 100 teachers are successfully running their units in the state as of now.
He said that they should be able to point out the problems that they were facing and make efforts to recruit more scouts and guides. Judging from reports, there is no desired progress in some districts.
The Chairman,Khyomo Lotha mentioned that excepting Mokokchung, all other districts did not have a training center. In this regard, he stated that Atuo Mezhur, son of Samuel Mezhur who was a King Scout (now known as President) during the British time, is constructing a State Training Center at Phezha, Nehrema in memory of his father. The construction of this hall is likely to be completed by year end. He also stated that the Chief Minister had proposed that all school students of Nagaland contribute Rs.5 for funding the Scouts and Guides movement.
Mr K. Pesieye, State Chief Commissioner (BSG) presented the Annual progress Report, 2005-2006 of the District Associations. He stated that the State Govt. had generously provided the funds by raising the Grants from Rs.15 Lakhs to Rs.30 lakhs and that this amount had been sanctioned to them for their requirements.
