‘A drug free NE’ project launched in Kohima

Kohima, October 6 (MExN): The Indian Catholic Youth Movement-North East (ICYM-NE) in collaboration with Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement (NCYM) launched a project for reducing drug use among children and adolescents. 

The project was launched under the slogan ‘A Drug Free Northeast’ by Rupin Sharma, IPS, Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland at Crescent Hotel Conference Hall, Kohima on October 6, Media Cell, NCYM stated in a press release. 

The DGP Nagaland in his speech asserted that we are all in the fight against drug abuse together and said, “We Nagas as we tend to come together only for vice practices should learn to also come together for good virtues.” Sharma stressed on the importance of having a good morality and to look around and take responsibilities for the menace of drug abuse and addiction to other psychotropic substances. He said “Distorted mentality is nothing but crime.” Further, he urged to come out of our fallacy in maintaining privacy for those in addiction and instead help them in overcoming their addiction.

Magdalene Anal, President ICYM NE, Sr Wansuklyndog, Lady Animator, NERYC and His Lordship, Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima also addressed the gathering.

Sr Mariyam Chothe, Lady Animator, NCYM said the invocation, Fr Vekupa George, Director, NCYM and Dr Lowrence Kithan, President, NCYM delivered the welcome address and vote of thanks respectively. Veronica Nriame, Joint Secretary NCYM and Female Rep to ICYM chaired the Programme.
