Dimapur, December 2 (MExN): The Western Sumi Baptist Akukuhou (WSBAK) is undertaking Alternative Schooling – A Central project funded under SSA Scheme running SSA project. The SSA project undertaken by WSBAK has been a great boon to many drop-outs and never enrolled youngsters. The WSBAK has taken up the project for both the residential and non-residential Alternative Schooling. There are altogether 22 non-residential centres with 622 children and 227 residential students undergoing professional training from two centres. The project is successfully running professional programs like computer education, motor and radio mechanic, printing press, steel fabrication, carpentry, poultry, cooking, knitting, trunk making, cobbler, handicraft, artist, driving, tailoring and weaving. Some trainees are already employed and engaged in work. Besides vocational training at work place, students in the hostel are also given proper basic elementary knowledge about reading, writing and arithmetic. In this regard, Educational Volunteers are invited to professionally teach and educate the students.
Special emphases are also given in the development of their personality and social skills. Students are taught traditional handicrafts, traditional songs and dances. Recently SSA students of WSBAK represented NBCC at the National Youth Carnival- 2007 held at Dimapur. Another cultural presentation was performed for twenty five dignitaries and visitors from Thailand at WSBAK Mission Center, Dimapur. All these exposure are learning experiences and are immensely helping the students in developing their personality and social skills.
The WSBAK has further requested the SMA, SSA Kohima to give enough opportunity of exposure to the implementing agencies for effective results. It also requests the concerned office to provide proper guide lines and format for preparing data and progress report. To begin scheme for 2007-08 session at the earliest so as to carry out the project without any hindrance and also to accommodate those students who were unable to admit in the last session.
