A tall and visionary leader; Tributes pour in for former MLA Dr KC Nihoshe

Kohima, July 13 (MExN): Former MLA and Parliamentary Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Dr KC Nihoshe passed away on July 13 after a prolonged illness at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research, Dimapur. 

Dr Nihoshe joined State politics in 2008 by contesting the State Assembly Elections as an independent candidate from 35 Assembly Constituency Zunheboto and served as the Parliamentary Secretary, Industries and Commerce. 

Following his demise, several State leaders and others led by the Nagaland Governor and Chief Minister paid tribute and conveyed condolences. 

Governor: The Governor of Nagaland, RN Ravi expressed shock at the demise and said, “The State has lost a genuine and a tall leader. I on behalf of the people of Nagaland and my own behalf, convey our heartfelt condolences. I pray to God to give strength to the family to bear this tragic loss and grant them solace at this hour of enormous pain.”

CM: Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that he was an efficient, sincere and visionary leader, who had a genuine concern for the welfare of society. “His demise is a great loss to the Nagas especially the Sumi community and the vacuum created will be difficult to fill. Though he is no longer with us, his selfless deeds will always be remembered,” Rio said while conveying condolences to the bereaved family members. 

NLA Speaker: The NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer stated that Dr Nihoshe always upheld the highest decorum on the floor of the Nagaland Assembly. “Throughout his public life he adhered to the principle of honesty, probity, and simple living. He has contributed immensely for the development of the state of Nagaland. He has also demonstrated supreme concern for the welfare of the poor. In his death the State has lost an inspiring leader and a gentleman,” Longkumer said and ‘on behalf of the 13 NLA and on my own behalf, convey our heartfelt condolences.’ 

NPCC: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee Congress (NPCC) said that Dr Nihoshe was a force to reckon with and a fully charged leader. He served the people he represented with dedication and his concern for society was a driving principle in his career of public service. Dr Nihoshe stood firm on issues and was an upright, honest leader. His passing away is an irreparable loss to Naga society which has lost a leader who yet had much to contribute to its upliftment, NPCC President K Therie stated. ‘The rank and file of NPCC join me in offering our deepest condolences,’ he added. 

NPF: Naga People’s Front (NPF), President, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu stated that Dr Nihoshe who was presently serving the party as Senior Vice President was a man of principle and integrity whose leadership is look upon by the regional NPF.

“Words are inadequate to express the sorrow and grief the party is going through at this moment but his sacrifices and contributions towards the upliftment of the party will never be forgotten but cherished by one and all. His death was a great loss for the Naga people particularly the NPF and the vacuum created by his demise will be difficult to replace,” NPF chief stated. 

“I, on my behalf and on behalf of party rank file deeply mourned over his demise is conveying our heartfelt condolences to all the family members,” he added. 

Minister Neiba: Nagaland’s Planning & Co-Ordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu mourning the demise of Dr Nihoshe said that he was a fine gentlemen and inspiring leader who immensely rendered his service for the society in various capacities as a politician and a social worker, the minister stated. In his demise, we have lost a good and humble leader who always worked for the upliftment of the society, Kronu stated.

NPF Zunheboto: NPF Zunheboto Division mourned the demise of Dr Nihoshe who was also In-charge NPF Zunheboto Division. “His demise is a loss not only for the party but for the entire Sumi people In particular and Nagas in general and his exemplary life as peoples' leader will be solely remembered. We convey our heartfelt condolences to his beloved family and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” the Division stated.
