ABAM disagrees with SC verdict on Sec 377

Mokokchung, October 23 (MExN): The Ao Baptist Church Association (ABAM) has joined the bandwagon of going against the Supreme Court verdict striking down parts of Section 377. It has quoted its guideline no. 5 under ‘Church discipline’ that reportedly states, “The Church will not tolerate and condone Homosexual and Lesbian.”

“Therefore, the Association will never wink at sin and will never condone or agree with this activity but deal accordingly without any compromise,” stated Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger, Executive Secretary of ABAM. He, however, did not mention what the ‘dealing accordingly’ will involve.

While giving the disclosure that “Of course Christians treat every person with love,” he maintained that “In doing unusual things we will be polite and respectfully say we disagree” even if the ABAM is “cast as a bigot or weirdo or may be mocked, insulted, threatened and so forth for merely disagreeing with the movement.”

While ‘disagreeing’ with the Supreme Court’s verdict, the ABAM stated that it adhered to the ‘word of God’ and “if any of the members gets involve in which is unscriptural and unnatural we will not tolerate.”

These points were affirmed during ABAM Executive Committee meeting from October 15-16 through a resolution.
