Abu Metha appointed as Co-Chair of AFI Modernization Committee

KOHIMA, JULY 26 (MExN): Nagaland Athletics President and Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), Abu Metha, on being appointed as the Co-Chair of the AFI Modernisation Committee.

In a statement issued on Friday, Honorary Secretary of Nagaland Athletics, Mhonsao Ngullie, said the federation expressed gratitude to AFI president Bahadur Singh Sagoo and senior administrator Dr. Lalit K. Bhanot for the recognition and trust placed in Metha.

Terming the appointment as a “prestigious responsibility,” the association said it reflects Metha’s contributions to sports administration over the past two decades, following his stint as a national-level athlete.

Metha, who has completed certified courses in sports administration, event management, and athlete safeguarding under World Athletics and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has been actively involved in shaping sports policy in Nagaland and the Northeast.

The statement said Metha has played a key role in hosting regional, national and international events and continues to mentor athletes, sports administrators, and emerging leaders.

At the national and international level, he has represented India as Team Leader at the World U-20 Championships in Nairobi, participated as a delegate to the Paris Olympic Games, and attended the World Mountain Running Congress in Thailand. Nagaland Athletics extended its best wishes to Metha for a successful tenure in his new role.
