Wokha, March 29 (MExN): The ongoing tour of the ACAUT team reached Wokha today. After self introduction of the ACAUT team members, Joel Nilo briefed to the gathering the experiences of the meetings that were held in the other districts.
A press release informed that Khekiye Sema, IAS retired, the main speaker of the function started his speech highlighting a brief history of the Nagas. “The Nagas first chose to be a free people from the time of Simon Commission in 1929 saying ‘we will not pay tax to anyone’ and so should our determination be today,” he stated. “Many of us don’t even know that we are free people, when we don’t know that we don’t know what else can we do?” As Nagas started the struggle to live as a free people in unison, Khekiye declared, “it is our demand and determination today that we have got to be one people and one government.”
According to the note, the common decision arrived at the meeting with a clear conviction was “Nagas shall have only one government and there shall be only one tax”. Earlier, Rev. Sulumo, pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church invoked God’s blessings.
