ACAUT ask Nagaland Police to clarify on narcotics seizure

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 19 (MExN): Against Corruption And Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland has sought clarification from the Nagaland Police on the recovery of contraband brown sugar weighing 6.9 kg from the residence of a senior police officer in the rank of IGP (CID) at New Police Reserve, Phesama on September 1, 2018.

Media cell, ACAUT Nagaland, in a press release on Friday, termed the recommendation of the Director General of Police on the IPS officer’s action that it was a “folly of judgment and poor knowledge of the concerned law” by the officer, who has been in the service for 25 years, as “insulting and biased to save the officer and hush up the matter.

Stating that the officer in question is either incompetent or was "caught in the act," it held, "either way he has no business to be in (the) police force."

Considering the severity and seriousness of the matter, the ACAUT Nagaland asked the PHQ, Nagaland Police to clarify to the people the following questions: Why the officer in question has not been suspended till such time the investigation is completed.

Since the contraband (brown sugar) seizure at Khuzama inter-state Narcotics check gate on August 8, 2018, whether "GD entry, milkman entries were done, whether an FIR has been lodged on this matter, if not, why."

And whether any senior police officers were informed by the concerned officer about taking the contraband to his residence.

Also reminding that narcotics offence is a serious offence inviting penalty up to 10 years rigorous imprisonment, the corruption watchdog sought clarity on whether the two contraband carriers, caught at the Khuzama check post are still in custody or if released, "why and under what condition and whose orders."

It also wanted to know whether the officer's subordinates have been questioned on this matter.

The ACAUT Nagaland also maintained that given the gravity of the case, the matter should be immediately forwarded to an independent body for inquiry and the matter be brought to its logical conclusion at the earliest.

Meanwhile, ACAUT Nagaland saluted the courageous and upright police officials, who risked and dared to raid the house of the accused senior officer. At the same time, it expressed worry that unless the issue is handled rightly, it will have serious ramifications on the morale and the moral compass of the police force.
