Will take own course of action if district administration does not
Dimapur, June 26 (MExN): The Action Committee Against Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) under the aegis of the Naga Council has once again appealed to “all the Naga Political groups to abolish dealership system and rein in multiple taxations”. The ACAUT has stated in a press release from its Co-Convenor L. Supong Ao and Secretary Solomon Awomi that “the specter of illegal dealers and non-local tax collectors terrorizing innocent traders and public alike cannot be tolerated anymore”. If the district administration and police cannot arrest these “anti social elements” at the earliest, the ACAUT has warned that it will be “forced to take law unto its own hands”.
In this, it will not accept MVI, Excise and police imposing illegal taxes at New Field Check gate.
The press release also highlights a recent incident at New Market, Dimapur. Three Naga women with 30kgs of fish and bound for Wokha were fined Rs. 6000/- and 3 kgs of their fish was “seized” by NSCN-IM functionaries on the ground that Wokha “dealership” on fish has been issued to a non-local trader and therefore, buying of fish is only permissible from that “UG protected trader”, narrated the ACAUT. The Committee has demanded that “this Wokha dealer of fish and the UG cadres all be arrested immediately by Wokha police”.
In a separate fact-finding report, the ACAUT has given a chart on taxes paid by pig wholesalers/suppliers to various groups and government agencies. (See Box)
