DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 2 (MExN): With the commitment given by the Nagaland Government to appoint Lokayukta within three months, the Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland has suggested that the government immediately advertise and seek names in at least 5 leading national news papers for appointment of Lokayukta and Upalokayukta members. Only after this can the three member committee finalize from the applicants for Lokayukta as per the section 4 of the Nagaland Lokayukta Act, 2017, after which in consultation with the Lokayukta as per section-3(3) member for Upalokayukta may be selected from among applicants as per section 4 of Nagaland Lokayukta Act 2017. Also taking into account the criteria of the Nagaland Lokayukta Act 2017, ACAUT media cell in a press release on Friday said it was highly unlikely that anyone from Nagaland would meet the criteria to be a Lokayukta or an Upalokayukta member. It therefore suggested that the post for these must be advertised in at least 5 leading national newspaper for not less than 4 days. ACAUT also concurred with the dissatisfaction of the Supreme Court with the state government’s submission in support of amendments to a local law to ensure the Chief Minister’s role in selection and appointment of Lokayukta and termed it as ‘correct and justified.’
