Accusation, claims continue over Wokha incident

Dimapur, June 4 (MExN): In connection with the May 24 mob incident in Wokha town, the wife of ASI Thomung Lotha has issued a clarification reacting to the media releases from Longsa Village Council “covering up and defending Chombemo Ezung of Longsa village…as a peacemaker.”

The Longsa Village Council has made itself a mockery, stated a note from the ASI’s wife, Nzanbeni Lotha, adding that their statement in defense of Ezung is ‘contradictory and fictitious.’ She declared that on May 24 at around 6:30 – 7:00 pm, “neither the Longsa Village Council nor anyone, except our hapless family with two little children is relevant witnesses to the macabre violence unleashed by the mob.” She said “I could vividly recollect the initial stage when they appeared at our house and could recognize and pinpoint Chombemo Ezung since he was the person who enquired about my husband, manhandled me and my two little child and the mob acted upon his instruction and direction and forcefully entered our house and brutally assaulted my husband in return for discharging his bona fide government duty on the orders of his superior officer.”

Chombemo Ezung, a jail warden, hailing from Longsa village is a known figure by majority of the denizens of Wokha town as to what type of person he is, the note informed. He is the person who masterminded and turned the whole incident into a tide of ‘gruesome incident’ so the LVC’s claims of his innocence is questionable, the ASI’s wife stated.

Calling upon right-thinking citizens to judge for themselves the actual case, Nzanbeni Lotha reminded the LVC that if its claims are right then God the Almighty Himself will judge equally and award the needful consequences.

Meanwhile, the warden in a rejoinder refuted Nzanbeni’s assertion as “totally unfounded and is not at all correct.” While stating that the ASI was beaten by the mob, Ezung refuted his presence among the mob. Ezung stated that he was with “my friends in my house at Tsumang colony” in Wokha. If she claims otherwise, then the “two or three” FIRs submitted to the enquiry committee be checked “if my name is in the FIRs.”

Ezung, on the other part, accused Nzanbeni of mobilizing a mob that later ransacked and destroyed his house “and looted cash and ornaments.” He said that a suit will be filed against her which will be “purely an individual case.” Ezung further hoped that her prayers for divine judgment would be fulfilled “as per my prayers too.” “If she is really a Christian or human being she would not have leveled such a grave false allegation against me,” he added.
