Accused of receiving kickbacks, DoPN files police complaint

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 6 (MExN):The Department of Power Nagaland filed a police complaint on September 6 after a social media post accusing the department of taking bribes went viral. The post which appeared on the Facebook group – The Naga Mirror – on September 5 and a screenshot of which started circulating on WhatsApp, alleged DoPN engineers of receiving Rs. 5cr in kickbacks from (power) generator manufacturers. The person who posted the update cited an unnamed “department official” who reportedly gave him the information of the alleged bribery. As per the post, the unnamed official refused to divulge the names of the “engineer(s) who received the bribe” and wished to remain anonymous. The DoPN responded with an FIR. The complaint, lodged at West Police Station by the Superintendent Engineer (SE), Dimapur Electrical Circle, while citing “false allegation” against the department” sought police inquiry to “find out the truth” and if any department officials are involved as alleged. The SE could not be reached for comment on the matter.
