Kohima, February 22 (MExN): On occasion of the ‘International Mother Tongue Day,’ which is observed on February 21 every year to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism, governor of Nagaland PB Acharya said, “Languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage. Mother Tongue is the first and foremost identity of each person.”
The Governor said that all efforts to promote the dissemination of mother tongues will serve not only to encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education but also to develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.
“One should be proud of their mother language. It is through the mother language one learns the basic things and attains the wisdom. Hence, we should promote and preserve our mother language in order to keep our tradition and heritage alive,” the Governor added.
