Acharya encourages North East students to strengthen the region

Kohima, January 17 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya inaugurated the Alva’s Virasat on January 12 in Moodbidri, Karnataka as the chief guest.   Addressing the 24th edition of Alva’s Virasat, Acharya opined that Virasat was the cultural legacy of India, a country rich in art, dance and literature, and that educational institutions play a crucial role in propagating it further.   According to a press release from his PRO, the Governor maintained that educational institutions are not just centres of knowledge, but a powerhouse for development and students are the nodal agents to carry forward the ideals. Alva’s, he said, is one such institution that merged education and culture.   Acharya lauded the efforts undertaken by Alva’s Education Foundation in nurturing and preserving unique cultural diversity of North East by adopting students from the region. He encouraged the students to be assets in strengthening the North East through education and treating them as one.   Alva’s Virasat is a cultural extravaganza spread across three days with a history of 21 years. It is a vivid display of talents by Classical and Folk artists both from the country and abroad, the release said. The objective is to familiarise the local art lovers in the mentioned fields by making them view and appreciate the arts displayed.   It was further informed that around twenty thousand students are enrolled with the Alva’s Education Foundation with over six hundred students from North East in various hostels of the institute. Twenty students from Nagaland are also pursuing their Nursing degree under the initiative of Governor Acharya, the release added.
