The National Foundation for India (NFI) launched the website for the ‘Leave No One Behind’ initiative on May 22. The Deputy Commissioner, Sachin Jaiswal, launched the website at a programme hosted by the Dimapur-based NGO— Can Youth, in Hotel Saramati, Dimapur.
The ‘Leave No One Behind’ project aims to promote civil society and youth engagement in the three north-east states of Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland. By leveraging the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework, the project seeks to design and implement models of inclusive development at the grassroots level.
The DC, while highlighting the significance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the need for inclusive initiatives, noted that although SDGs are often discussed, the achievements in Nagaland are not yet satisfactory. He emphasized the importance of generating self-employment opportunities as a crucial step towards poverty alleviation, highlighting that economic empowerment plays a vital role in achieving SDG targets.
Addressing the issue of gender equality, Jaiswal acknowledged that acceptance of the contemporary political setup is still a challenge in Nagaland. However, he stressed the importance of embracing and working towards gender equality, encouraging women to step forward and actively participate in societal development. He emphasized that any initiative beneficial to society should be inclusive, ensuring equal opportunities for all.
According to him, the broad scope of the 17 SDGs into the government welfare schemes like the Food Security Act and others. He however maintained that the community has a crucial role to play in creating awareness among the people and the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.
“The broader picture of all the SDGs is already outlined in our (government development schemes) framework,” Jaiswal stated. “The key lies in effective implementation and ensuring that these schemes reach the targeted communities.”
He expressed confidence that the launch of the website would serve as a platform for enlightenment and instilling collective responsibility to work towards achieving the SDGs in their entirety.
