Dimapur November 16 (MExN): Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) Cum National Domestic Workers movement (NDWM) Nagaland Region organized an awareness programme on “Gender based violence and the role of women in building peace” on November 16.

The programme was supported by International Domestic workers Federation (IDWF) in Assisi Auditorium. Sr Pramila, Director, ACID welcomed the audience and explained the purpose of the programme.

Loza, Coordinator, CHILDLINE Dimapur spoke on the issue of Gender based violence, at home, work place and the society. “Violence against women and children mainly girl child is one of the most prevalent human rights violations in the society. It knows no social economic or national boundaries. Gender based violence undermines the health, dignity, security and autonomy of its victims. Yet it remains shrouded in a culture of silence,” she said.

The coordinator further urged the participants to be aware of one’s role in preventing such circumstances.

Dr. Fr CP Anto, Founder and Director, Peace Channel and Principal, NEISSR enlightened the participants on the Role of women in building peace. Women have a very important role to play in building peace in the family, community and society at large. “Women can either become victims of conflict or agents of peace building,” he noted.

“Many time women have averted conflicts and have been responsible for building peace. Peace building needs the involvement of women. The inclusion of women can and must take many forms especially in the efforts to address rising cold wars and conflicts in the families,” he added.
