‘Act East Policy’ leading to all round developments in NE: Rajnath Singh

Indian Army celebrates contribution of NE in nation building

New Delhi, November 21 (MExN): The Government-accelerated development initiatives in North East have transformed ‘Look East policy’ into ‘Act East Policy’, leading to all round developments in the region, Union Defence Rajnath Singh has stated.

The initiatives also resulted in enabling all the states in the region to improve trade with South East Asian Nations, he maintained, addressing the two-day conclave on the theme 'Celebrating Contribution of India's North East Region (NER) in Nation Building', through a video message.

The conclave was organised by the Indian Army and the State Governments of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur & Nagaland as well as North Eastern Zone Cultural Council (NEZCC) in Guwahati from November 20-21. 

Singh maintained that the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Master Plan would act as force multiplier in developing infrastructural facilities in NE region, informed press release from the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

“Whether it is road construction, expansion of railways or improvement of waterways, through Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti, we are committed to strengthen the pace of development,” he added, highlighting that there were lot of progress in the field of energy as well as Solar and Hydel Projects and providing electricity in every nook and corner.”

Underlining the Telecom revolution made by India by joining select countries where 5G facilities have been introduced, the Defence Minister also assured to expand the IT and Telecom facilities to every nook and corner of the NE states.

“This will ensure economic development, good governance and public welfare. I have full faith that due to the hardworking nature of the young generation of North East, and the facilities given by the government for Ease of Doing Business, the North East region is moving towards a golden future,” he added. 

Singh also noted that ‘New India’ can be possible only with Bold Policy Reforms, World Class Infrastructure and Top Class Talent, and said that the Government of India is committed to the development of each and every citizen of the North East through health, education, environment, sports, rural development, employment and small-scale industries.
“The efforts of the people of the North East have a very important role to play in the motto of our government, 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas',” he added. 

As per the MoD’s release, he also paid tribute to valour and bravery of many heroes and heroines of NE including  Lachit Borphukan, Maniram Dewan; Bir Tikendrajit Singh, Moze Riba Nag, and Rani Gaidinliu; U Tirot Sing Veer Sengya Sambudhan Phonglo, and Rani Ropuillani. 

The two-day conclave organised by the Indian Army, under the aegis of HQ Eastern Command as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations was aimed at highlighting the contribution of NE towards nation building, felicitate Veer Naris and showcase NE as well as opportunity to spread awareness about the role of unsung heroes of region in India's struggle for independence, it said. 

Veer Naris of NER were felicitated during a special event at Narangi Military Station on November 20.  Among others, Chief Ministers of Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita and other dignitaries were present in the conclave.
