Tuensang town Sangtam community rally against ‘assassination attempt’ on former vice-chairman of TTC

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 16 (MExN): Under the aegis of the Sangtam Union Tuensang Town (SUTT), the Sangtam community on Friday staged a silent procession in protest against what it alleged as ‘assassination attempt’ on K. Aliba Sangtam, former vice-chairman of Tuensang Town Council at his residence at NST colony, Tuensang on November 7, 2018 by unidentified miscreants.  

The motive behind the attempt could not be ascertained. Sources said a grenade was hurled at the resident of the former vice-chairman of the Tuensang Town Council at around 7:40 pm during the Diwali celebration.  

After the silent procession, the SUTT submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang. Hundreds of people holding placards such as ‘Stop terrorism’, ‘Save civilians’, ‘Stop Assassination’, ‘ No bombing zone’, ‘Arrest the culprit,’ attended the procession.  

Short speeches were delivered by United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP) president and SUTT president at the protest rally. The memorandum demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and ban on crackers within Tuensang town with immediate effect.   S

UTT in a press statement said such act of ‘terrorism’ is not acceptable in the Naga society. It urged every right thinking citizens to condemn such criminal act.
