
Kohima, March 4 (MExN): To commemorate World Hearing Day, the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPD) under National Health Mission, DoH & FW organized a programme with the students and teachers of Government Middle School and Primary School, Daklane, Kohima.
Dr. Obangjungla, Dy. Director & Programme Officer highlighted on the objectives and services provided under the programme.
Speaking on the theme ‘Action for Hearing Loss: Make a Sound Investment’, Dr. Kedozeto Punyü, Senior ENT Specialists, NHAK explained the need for action on hearing loss through focus on preventing and identifying hearing loss, high cost of unaddressed hearing loss and cost effectiveness of interventions. He stressed on the continued need for awareness about noise induced hearing loss, especially among children and early detection and intervention which is the most important factor in minimizing the impact of hearing loss on a child’s development and educational achievement.
The day was marked with screening of school children by ENT Specialists, Dr. Kedozeto Punyü and Dr. Zhimato and staff of NHAK.
Total 20 children with ear related problems ranging from 3 – 14 years of age were given free ear check-ups, hearing tests and free medicines. Information materials were also provided and students diagnosed with moderate hearing impairment were referred for further treatment.
