‘Adapt culture of meritocracy’

20th ANCSU Biennial General Conference concludes

Kohima, October 23 (MExN): NSF President Kegwayhun Tep on Saturday called for adapting the ‘culture of meritocracy’ and urged students to be problem solvers and not mere degree holders.

The NSF President was speaking at the 20th biennial general conference of the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU). 

Tep also added that the State needs a ‘new breed of youth’ and advised the gathering to strive to set exemplary actions.

The two-day 20th ANCSU biennial general conference which concluded on Saturday was also attended by Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher Education & Tribal Affairs as the inaugural guest.

The Minister also called for meritocracy to “be the zeal” and stated that, “Today’s Nagaland will bring about tomorrow’s Nagaland.”
He unfurled the union flag and dedicated the clock tower. The Minister acknowledged the exemplary leadership of ANCSU, which he said, has given a new trajectory to students’ leadership. 

Stressing the need of introspection and hard work, he urged for consistency and visionary bonds to be laid with commitment. The Minister also advised the delegates to be ‘practical agents of hope’ and not to narrow down to divisions. He further mentioned the need to speak the facts and the truth without fear of tribalism, nepotism, and hypocrisy.

Vimeyiekho Vitso, ANCSU President spoke about the digital protest, KSCJ land issue, and the Post Matric-Scholarship issue etc. Vitso also urged upon the fraternity to be assets of the society and encouraged them to define themselves as students and to introspect their role as students.

An application of appeal which was submitted to the Minister of Higher Education by the Kohima Science College Teachers’ Association was also read out by the president. 

In his greetings, A cultural presentation by Kros College, Kohima, special number by Rokono Mekro, and melody by SD Jain Girls College, Dimapur were part of the event. It was followed by Conference Remarks by the Tribunal General of ANCSU and the release of souvenir by the inaugural guest.

Later in the afternoon, the Academic session was graced by Johnny Raungmei, Joint Chief Executive Officer SDMA, government of Nagaland. Raungmei defined the role of scholars and stated that, “The past is our experience, the present is our responsibility, and the future is our opportunity.” He wished for the new ANCSU office bearers to be facilitators and find new avenues for young graduates of the state. He further added that young scholars need to advocate for inclusiveness and to adapt the ‘cultures of connect’ and prudent learning. “A culture of integrated comprehensive learning with philosophical blend of mind yet full of spiritualism,” he elaborated.

Raungmei went on to urge the students to become exponential and futuristic leaders to open up new possibilities and for an ‘abundant future’ and to become technologists in the exponential world. 

During the session, folk fusion was presented by Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, melody by Phek Government College, and special number by St John College, Dimapur followed by the vote of thanks proposed by the Finance Secretary, ANCSU. 

Valedictory guest Y Kikheto Sema, APC and Commissioner & Secretary Government of Nagaland, reiterated that the theme for the 20th biennial general conference, ‘Heralding Tomorrow’ was indicative of a hope and vision for tomorrow.  He encouraged the gathering to ‘speak, think, and plan’ and that said that the long political struggle would come to a logical solution for the younger generation. He highlighted the need to invest in education for good institutes that would encourage students to opt for higher education in the state, and the land for better alternatives for the economy. He encouraged taking up coffee plantation, rubber plantation, and also stated that “food security is possible when there is an availability of water security.”

Toito D Chishi elected as new ANCSU President
After the conclusion of the academic session, the election of the new office bearers was held, in which Toito D Chishi was elected as the ANCSU President for the tenure 2021-2023.

The newly-elected President expressed his gratitude to all the voters for their faith in him and assured his dedication, sincerity, and honesty in his tenure. 

Introduction of the new office bearers was carried out by the Election Commission which was then followed by oath taking of the new ANCSU team and dedicatory prayer.

The outgoing ANCSU president thanked his former colleagues, the pioneers, and senior leaders of ANCSU for their constant guidance, support, and cooperation while assuring continuous effort to extend help and support to the union whenever needed.

Toito D Chishi (President), Kahovi Z Rochill (Vice President), Tenyesinlo Bukh (General Secretary), Dzüzüve Swüro (Assistant General Secretary), H Kivika Achumi (Finance Secretary), Achiru Pfithu (Games and Sports Secretary), Ao – Acum Jamir (Magazine Secretary), Imtinaro Imsong (Education Secretary), Kivinoka A Sema (Info. & Publicity Secretary), Temsuwapang Jamir (Social and Cultural Secretary), Shikalito N Awomi (Women Affairs Secretary), S Topeka Yepthomi (Speaker), Hobito K Kits (Deputy Speaker), Ikato Zhimo (Assembly Secretary), and Ikiyeto H Zhimomi (Auditor General), were the newly elected office bearers for the tenure 2021-2023. 

Sazolie College, Kohima presented a special number and words of gratitude were proposed by the Vice President, ANCSU. 
Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung was awarded the ‘Best Disciplined College’ at the conference. 

An extravaganza night followed the valedictory session which officially concluded the two-day 20th biennial general conference.
