DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 25 (MExN): The ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region (ICAR RC NEH), Nagaland Centre, Medziphema organised a one-day awareness cum farmer-scientist interaction programme on the theme “Adaptation and coping strategies to climate change for Sustainable Agriculture in Nagaland” at Kikruma Village, Kikruma block, Phek district on February 20, under Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa Project. 


According to a press release, Imtisenla Walling, Technical Officer, AMFU Jharnapani chaired the programme and briefed the farmers about the various activities provided under Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa. In the current scenario, getting access to weather related information will help the farmer to plan their cultivation well in advance, she said. 


In this connection, Walling also highlighted the Meghdoot app, developed by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and ICAR, which provide location, crop and livestock specific weather based agro-advisories to the farmers. 


The Meghdoot app seamlessly aggregates contextualized agro- advisories at district level issued by Agro-Met Field Units (AMFUs) every Tuesday and Friday with forecast and historical weather data for farmer's benefits. The app provide forecast relating to rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction which play a critical role in agricultural operations.
