With only 338 voters, Langzanger village under 59 Seyochung A/C and located around 45 kilometers away from Kiphire district headquarter, in May 2017, the entire villagers led by its elders organized a citizens meet and adopted a resolution to austerely stick to the clarion call made by the NBCC on clean election.
Recently, the Minister for Soil & Water Conservation, Geology & Mining, NSMDC Ltd, V Kashiho Sangtam put into record that “during the last general election held in 2018, Langzanger village did not allow any candidates to campaign or spend any resources in the village; rather all expenses were incurred by the voters themselves as part of clean election.”
Addressing the Langzanger Village Council and Langzanger Village Students’ Union golden jubilee celebration at Langzanger village as special guest, Kashiho Sangtam appreciated Langzanger village for being the “first village in the entire Kiphire district and among the few villages in Nagaland to take a stand against the practice of unethical election means by successfully implementing clean election.”
“What Langzanger village has done should be an eye opener and must be emulated by other villages for good governance and all round development for the growth of society,” the minister said while inaugurating the newly constructed public ground at Langzanger village. The minister informed that “as a gift to Langzanger village for clean election during the last 2018 general election, he and his family decided to construct and fully sponsor the construction of the public ground.”
Urging upon the gathering to take the example of Langzanger village, Kashiho said, “When election system is transparent, leaders can focus on development issue and work more efficiently.”
It may be mentioned that Langzanger Village Council was awarded for its Clean Election by Government of Nagaland with certificate and cash during the cabinet meeting held at Okhe village in Kiphire district in 2018. It was handed over by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.
During the jubilee programme, EAC Moa also donated bike to Langzanger Village Council in recognition of clean election. Langzanger Village Students Union library was inaugurated by Dr Tiakhala Walling SMO, District Hospital Kiphire. The jubilee celebration was held February 16 and 17 last.
