The All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers’ Group (ANATG) 2015 batch on Monday announced it would intensify its sit-in protest to a peaceful hunger strike from February 10.
The decision was made due to the lack of a positive response from the state government to a memorandum submitted by the group on February 6, a Core Committee member said.
‘This step was necessitated owing to the failure on the part of the government to response positively to its letter submitted on February 6, 2026,’ Core Committee member Pekato Zhimomi told The Morung Express.
The teachers have been demanding regularisation of their services.
In its letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Core Committee of the All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers’ Group- 2015 batch has demanded for immediate service regularization of 1166 ANATG- 2015 Batch based on the HPC Agreement 2022 signed between the Government of Nagaland and the ANATG 2015 Batch on October 7, 2022.
The ANATG has also assured to suspend the democratic protest basing on the nature and feasibility of the written communication from the department.
It may be mentioned that following the suitability test conducted the Directorate of School Education on May 20 and 23, 2017, the department has submitted a Memorandum for regularisation of 1166 teacher on August 8, 2017.
Subsequently, owing to the delay in regularisation, the ANATG staged a protest in October 2018, wherein the state government has granted 6th ROP on November 22, 2018 to the ANATG members in line with the suitability test.
However, with no positive move from the government, the ANATG staged a ‘hunger strike’ from September 26, 2022.
Thereafter, multiple letters, memorandums, representations, ultimate requests and ultimatums were submitted for regularisation of their service. An agreement was also signed between the Government of Nagaland and the aggrieved party on October 7, 2022.
On January 28, 2026, the department of school education has put up a letter again to the Chairman, Committee on regularisation furnishing details of existing posts, vacant post along with the certification and enclosing ANATG’s ultimatum.
A joint meeting was held between the department officials headed by the Commissioner & Secretary, SE & SCERT, HPC signatories and the core committee of the ANATG was held on February 3, 2026 wherein the aggrieved teachers began its democratic sit-in protest at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima and continues till today.
According to the Core Committee, the suspension or continuation of its protest will be decided basing on the feasibility of the written response from the government.
Zhimomi has informed that it has received an invitation from the department, wherein it has written a request to the Core Committee to suspend their protest, and that it would look into the regularisation of service.
The decision to intensify its protest was taken earlier in the day, said Zhimomi, adding that notwithstanding the request letter from the department it will go ahead with hunger strike, although the venue and time has not been decided at the time of filing this report.
