DIMAPUR, MAY 15 (MExN): NNC leader Adinno Phizo has sent her warmest greetings to “our people” on the occasion of the 55th (1951 - 2006) Anniversary of the voluntary national Plebiscite Day on May 16.
“It was undoubtedly the defining moment for the hitherto independent Naga communities to decide on their political future,” she said of the plebiscite in a message remitted from London where she resides.
She questioned: could it be that for the first time Delhi has indicated a shift as reported on April 1 last by PTI when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told a press conference at Guwahati, ‘We want Nagaland to prosper in peace and security.’ Nagaland welcomes the statement if the intention is serious, AZ Phizo’s daughter said. However, she added, NNC and FGN will never yield to bully.
Terming the NSCN (IM) as a marauding outfit, she said, “From 1980s Delhi resorted to support a Marxist terrorist outfit covertly in an attempt to circumvent the democratically elected NNC and the Federal Government of Nagaland.”
She alleged that the NSCN (IM), consistent with its ideology of ‘power grows from the barrel of the gun’, attack, kill, kidnap and extort money from people with active Indian army logistic support. “In recent days our people in Chakhesang, Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, and Zeliangrong Regions have been under attack. Under the Naga Constitution, Article 5, each Region has autonomy over its affairs. In clear breach of Naga Constitutional democracy, ‘NSCN-IM’ bully our people for the sake of instant political gratification.”
Adinno said the indelible affirmation in favour of a single national identity by, to be precise, 99.00+ per cent of Naga people gave substance to modern Nagaland.
