Advent is the season observed in many Christian Churches, a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. The term is an anglicized version of the Latin word adventus, meaning "coming". The season offers the opportunity to share in the ancient longing for the coming of the Messiah, and to be alert for his Second Coming. The season included the four Sundays preceding Christmas and this year, the four Advent Sundays are November 27, December 4, December 11, and December 18.
Advent, preceding Christmas has arrived and fellow Christians are mounted up with responsibilities setting up decoration, stars and so forth. Every person, irrespective of the degree of his/her faith and attachment to the church is filled with bliss when the word Christmas strikes one’s mind. In this season, there are uncountable tasks for believers preparing to welcome our Messiah.
As our curiosity grows to a large stretch to encounter Christmas, so should our inquisitiveness be analogous with advent season, the pertinent time to renew, revive and change our characters. Dexter once portrayed, “The best character is made from vigorous and persistent resistance to evil tendencies”. Miseries and adversities are some life’s challenges targeted from every angle. Nevertheless, those tears of life that persists to victimize our peaceful and coexistence living are momentary. There is a greater height we can achieve and that is lasting.
Many believe advent is a time of preparation in order to welcome baby Jesus and getting ready to receive Him into our lives with renewal spirit and hope. Some says it’s time to celebrate the mystery. There are --I think-- immeasurable advantages we can claim in this coming. To give up our egos and attitude of gossip, rather embrace love which is our prerogative being a Christian. Forgiving our enemies and advocating for love, peace, joy, piety, perseverance, acceptance, fidelity and humanity could be another genuine gifts to endorse during this time of solemnity.
We’ve been engaged in different quarters round the clock and throughout the year. Some have accumulated wealth where as some failed to posses. No matter what our condition is, let us believe in the mystery of our faith and leave no stone unturned in the long run. Our prosperity is always attributed to hard work. Let us bring consolation in times of distress and give ourselves this season, a time to rejuvenate and augment the spirit of hopefulness to meet our King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
