Advisor Mannen discuses infra development of Customary Courts in Nagaland

Reminds Union Law Secretary separate HC for State

New Delhi, August 31 (MExN): MLA and Advisor, Law & Justice and Land Revenue TN Mannen along with the department officials today called on SKG Rahate,  Secretary (Justice), Union Ministry of Law and Justice and discussed various issues including infrastructure development of the Customary Courts in villages and separate High court for Nagaland. 

The meeting discussed extending infrastructure development of the Customary Courts in villages of the State in the line with the Gram Nyayalayas Act 2008, amended in 2019 for extending to Nagaland and other tribal State of North East India, informed a press release from the Advisor’s Private Secretary.

Mannen specifically requested the secretary and the officials to make a special dispensation to allow infrastructure funding of Customary Courts construction at village level as centrally sponsored scheme, it said. 

As per the release, Rahate reportedly assured to examine the issue. 

The Advisor also reminded the Union Law Ministry on allowing the opening of the separate High Court for Nagaland at the earliest, it maintained. 

Meanwhile, Mannen also called on Ajay Tirkey, Secretary, Department of Land Resources, Union Ministry of Rural Development in the latter’s office in New Delhi on August 29.

He reviewed the digitalisation scheme implementation in Nagaland as well as discussed the details and guidelines of the project with the Secretary and his officials present.  Pointing out certain shortcomings in the reports submitted by Nagaland, the Ministry officials noted that if necessary they were ready to visit the state and help its effective implementation, the release said. 

The Advisor expressed gratitude to the Ministry officials for their willingness to support the State and said that senior officials from Nagaland would visit the Ministry/Department for further discussion on various aspects of the scheme, it added.
