Advisor for Law and Justice and Land Revenue, Government of Nagaland, TN Mannen, IAS Retd has highlighted the need to focus on an all round professional development to build a career in law and said that the Law College is a professional formative journey.
The advisor was addressing Students of Kohima Law College during 45th Fresher’s Meet under the theme “Beyond The Profession” today at Red Cross Building, Kohima.
He advised law students to build strong foundation in core subjects of law and stay updated on legal news.
Mannen said apart from the need for students to be judicious with time and being punctual, the advisor called the students maintain Regular attendance which will help them to stay engaged and understand complex concepts.
He dwelled on the importance of understanding the basics of law specially on subjects like contracts, torts, constitutional law and mentioned the need to revisit and review the three new laws passed by the Indian government.
Apart from that, he asked the students to explore legal journals, articles and online resources to broaden their knowledge.
The advisor noted that following legal development, landmark judgements and current event will help them in building a strong career.
On building networks and relationships which is a ladder lawyers cannot avoid, Mannen advised the students to connect with peers, Professors and Legal practitioners.
Additionally, he asked law students to be active and engage in activities such as moot courts, debates and legal aid clinics to develop practical skills.
Principal, Kohima Law College, Soni Magh delivered keynote address. She highlighted the changes of syllabus and achievements made by the college.
The program was hosted by Kilangakum Longkumer and Mercy Sangma. Invocation was pronounced by Assistant Professor and welcome address was delivered by Mankhat N Konyak, President KLC Students Union.
Lentsuthong Yimchumger, General Secretary, KLC conveyed words of gratitude, welcome song and special songs were presented by senior students.
During informal session, Nyitso and Jinenle Wanth were crowned Mr and Miss Fresher 2024. The programme was also attended by Kohima Town MLA, Dr Tsielhoutuo Rhütso.
