Kohima, February 4 (MExN): Advisor for School Education and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, visited the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) dumping site at Dzürüzou, Meriema, on February 3 to review the ongoing works under the SBM (Urban) 2.0 Dumpsite Remediation Acceleration Programme (DRAP) for legacy waste remediation.

Dr Yhome, who had earlier assumed responsibility for overseeing the remediation works at the site, was accompanied by Mission Director, SBM (Urban), Kezhochole Rhetso, and officials of the Kohima Municipal Council.

During the visit, the Mission Director and KMC officials highlighted the initiatives undertaken under the programme to make Kohima a dumpsite-free city, stating that the works are being carried out in accordance with the timeline set by the Ministry.

Dr Yhome urged the concerned officials to expedite the ongoing works and ensure completion of the remediation process within the stipulated timeframe. He also appealed to the general public to extend active cooperation by adopting proper waste management practices, particularly waste segregation at the household level.

Emphasising the importance of segregation, he said waste must be separated into biodegradable, non-biodegradable and hazardous categories for effective collection and scientific disposal. He added that public participation and responsible disposal habits are crucial for maintaining cleanliness and improving overall environmental sustainability.
