Advocacy Campaign under National Nutrition Mission held

Kohima, August 1 (MExN): As part of the Block Convergence Action Plan for IEC and Advocacy Campaign under the National Nutrition Mission, a sensitization programme on Poshan Abhiyaan for line departments at the grassroot level was organised at Rusoma Village under CDPO Kohima (T) on July 31.


A press release stated here that C. James Ezung, CDPO Kohima (T) highlighted the policy, goals and objectives of Poshan Abhiyaan and the need for convergent action of various line departments to address the issue of stunting, under-nutrition, Anemia and low birth weight. He urged upon the gathering to take the lead to spread awareness and make it a mass movement so that a new tradition is created for adoption of healthy life style. 


He also highlighted the important platforms such as the celebration of the Community Based Events under Poshan Abhiyaan and the Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day where these issues can be addressed and the messages disseminated at the grassroot level. He made aware to the gathering the cash benefits available to first pregnant and lactating mothers under PMMVY, a maternity benefit Scheme which is a partial compensation provided to meet her nutrition needs.


Area Coordinator, NRLM, Chiebhobozou block highlighted the various activities being undertaken by the dept for promotion of livelihood and reduction of poverty which are closely linked with proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle. He said that to meet the objective of Poshan Abhiyaan and bridge the nutritional gap, the department is focussing on promotion of animal husbandry and nutrition garden through the VLOs and SHGs.


Community Health Officer, speaking on the topic importance of timely immunization and women nutrition highlighted the various immunizations available at the medical centre and urged upon the gathering to spread awareness for availing the services which are provided free of cost by the Government. She also shared with the gathering the importance of timely immunization which will contribute to the future well-being of the child. She also stressed on the various sources of nutrition that a women should take to meet her nutritional needs.


Hebou Rio, CDPO Kohima (U) highlighted the need for community involvement and ownership in the functioning of Anganwadi centres which will not only motivate the Anganwadi workers but also take collective steps to address the needs and issues of our children and women. 


Senior Supervisor, Reyivolu speaking on the topic Importance of Growth monitoring and prevention of Anemia in women highlighted that as parents and elders it is our utmost duty to see that our children are growing well both in height and weight as per their age. For this timely monitoring is required and urged upon the gathering to make use of the various Growth monitoring Devices which are now made available under Poshan Abhiyaan  at the Anganwadi centres. She also highlighted the symptoms, causes of Anemia and its more prevalence in women as compared to men and advised the gathering on its prevention through proper diet and medical intervention. 


The programme was chaired and concluded by Zakie, SAA while the invocation was pronounced by Chabienuo, AWW.
