Advocacy prog on drug abuse and HIV/AIDS

Dimapur, March 28 (MExN): Nagaland Users Network in its endeavour to combat the twin epidemic of Drug Addiction and HIV/AIDS conducted a two days Advocacy and sensitization workshop on Drug Abuse and HIV/AIDS on March 26 and 27 with the stakeholders of Northern and Southern region of Rengma area.
A press note issued by Ruokozo Theyo, general secretary, Nagaland Users Network informed that the programme was supported by NSACS, Kohima Users Network, Kripa Foundation, Tseminyu and Peoples Welfare Society, Chunlikha. The programme was attended by more than 200 participants including key Village stakeholders and the youth of the area. Sanjay (NUN) chaired the program. The session included Concept of Targeted Intervention, Harm Reduction, and basic of HIV/AIDS.
The programme also included sharing from Tribhuwan (KUN-NUN) who shared about his hard life as a drug user. He stated that he had tried numerous ways and means to get rid of his habit but every attempt to quit drugs proved futile. Finally with the help of drug rehabilitation he got clean and is living a productive live.
Yhunile from FPAI also shared her testimony about being an HIV+ for the past many years. In her speech, she quoted “HIV/AIDS is not the end of Life. With the various treatment facilities available today, one can avail it and live healthily”. Abou Mere Director Kripa Foundation, members from the concerned citizen forum and stakeholders also exhorted the gathering. The program drew huge response from the participants during the question and answer session where many queries, myths and misconception about Drug Addiction and HIV/AIDS. The house also requested NUN to conduct similar program in
the coming days.
