Dimapur, November 2 (MExN): An advocacy workshop on the burden of tobacco epidemic on Naga society was held in Oriental Theological Seminary on October 31.
James Khalong, Academic dean chaired the function. Dr C Tetseo, DNO, National Tobacco Control Program in his presentation stated that tobacco has started to take its toll on our society and the Church cannot afford to remain a mute spectator on behavioural and health issue like tobacco as this will ultimately lead to spiritual problem.
He also said that the health department alone cannot counter the aggressive campaign posed by Tobacco industry targeting the youth and the Church can play a crucial role on this from its vantage point. Dr Tetseo also stated that the students of the college will conduct community awareness on tobacco as part of their practical assignment and in this regards, he called upon other theological colleges to emulate this initiative.
