DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 17 (MExN): An influential student body which exercises its reach on Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur said today that the political issue of the Nagas should not be confused with the demand for affiliation to the Nagaland Board of School Education. “There is a wrong concept that it (affiliation) is linked with the political issue,” All Naga Students’ Association of Manipur (ANSAM) president, Paul Langhu, said over phone.
He said the curriculum of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur is not suitable for students of the hill districts of Manipur. Another reason he cited was the threat to education caused by the system in place. Paul brought to mind a recent instance when a high-ranking Manipur government official was abducted by an underground group there for ‘indulging in corruption.’
If the Nagaland Government passes an enactment allowing affiliation to the NBSE, “it will be a bold step,” he said. “People don’t have confidence in the Manipur Government.”
