DIMAPUR, APRIL 17 (MExN): The Tobu Area Students’ Union (TASU) on Tuesday served a deadline to the Executive Engineer PWD (Housing), Youth Resources and Sports and contractor of a NK Construction Agency to present a detailed report on the status of the youth hall construction which has remained abandoned for the past seven (7) years.
A press statement from TASU said the project work was sanctioned under SPA 2009-11 with a 24 month time frame for its completion. However, 7 years since then, the construction remains abandoned despite repeated reminder from different organizations, it stated.
A RTI reports revealed that a total amount of 83 lakh have already been withdrawn, the students union said. It has sought explanation from the implementing partner as to where the fund has been utilized.
The students union said the silence of the contractor towards the queries raised by them in local dailies several times directly reflects the unmindfulness over the concern raised by the student union.
Informing the concerned contractor and implementing partners that this would be the last reminder, the students’ union has asked them to present a detailed report to its office within 10 days and the resume the project construction within 20 days time. It cautioned that no justification would be accepted if the implementing partner and contractor fail to respond and act within the stipulated time. The students’ union also said it would not be responsible “if any untoward incident happen after the expiry of the stipulated time.”
