After infighting, Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) has split

DIMAPUR, JUNE 6 (MExN): In a major development, the General Headquarters (GHQ) brigade, Tangshang area brigade, Konyak Region, Wancho Region and Leinong Region of the Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) on Tuesday declared that it will no longer work under the leadership of Yung Aung.

A press statement received from Maj Gen Langnyei Konyak, NSCN/GPRN alleged that since the fall out emerging out of a meeting called on April 5, 2023 to discuss on the welfare and progression of the Naga Army and the people, which the president Yung Aung suspected was a rise against his rule, the latter had since been sending forces to attack the GHQ.

To quell the situation, it said civil societies including Naha YUYA (Naga Culture Committee Myanmar), Naga Baptist Convention (NBC), Naga Students' Organisation (NSO), Eastern Naga Students' Association (ENSA), Konyak Union Myanmar (KIJM) had intervened and brokered for peace. Towards this, both the GHQ and Council Headquarter (CHQ) were asked to clearly maintain the Tigak River as the boundary line till the time the issue is solved and put to rest.

However, Yung Aung and his operation continued disrespecting the boundary line drawn by the civil societies leading to a clash between the two parties on June 5 when Yung Aung group crossed the Tigak River to attack the GHQ, the press statement alleged adding no casualties were reported from their side and they only fired in retaliation and as defence.

Following the June 5 firing, the aforementioned brigade and region under GHQ declared that it will not work under the leadership of Yung Aung but will “walk in the footstep of our most respected Late Baba SS Khaplang and his undying principles and values.”

It also informed that the original logo and stamp of the Naga Army adopted in 1980 shall be in use instead of the new logo and nomenclature which was changed by Yung Aung.
