Aghunato town commemorates Dr T Ao 100th birth anniversary

Aghunato, December 16 (MExN): Commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of the first Naga Olympian Dr Talimeren Ao, a programme was held in Aghunato town, Zunheboto district on December 16.


According to a DIPR report, Youth Resource Officer, Zunheboto Atoli Yeptho while giving the football journey of Dr T Ao expressed that he form his early childhood “displayed a strong inclination towards sports and athletic activities."


She also pointed out that he did not only excel in studies, but also in football and other sports.


“He was awarded the best sportsperson Trophy in the inter high school tournament in Jorhat, and individual athletic champion at Cotton college for three consecutive years. He also won individual athletic championship in athletic of Calcutta University in 1946 and 1947,” she mentioned.


"He became the first Naga Director of Health Services and held the post till retirement in 1978. And though in service, his interest in sports did not diminish. He encouraged local football talents, organised medical football team and took keen interest in local tournaments,” the speaker added.


A documentary of Dr Talimeren Ao was also screened. The programme was chaired by Nili Achumi, General Secretary ATSU.
