KOHIMA, JUNE 14 (MExN): The Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) has announced a special recruitment opportunity for eligible male sportspersons from Nagaland to enroll in the Indian Army as Agniveers under a collaborative initiative with the Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong.

The recruitment targets athletes in eight disciplines: basketball, cross country, handball, hockey, karate, shooting, swimming, and volleyball. According to the NOA, the tentative date for the recruitment rally is scheduled for the third week of July 2025 at the Assam Regimental Centre in Shillong. Prior to the rally, an initial screening of candidates from Nagaland will be held in Kohima during the third week of June. Shortlisted candidates will undergo preparatory training ahead of the main event.

Applicants must be between 17½ and 21 years of age and should have passed Class 10 with a minimum aggregate of 45 percent and at least 33 percent in each subject. Physical requirements include a height of 160 cm, a minimum weight of 48 kg, and a chest measurement of 77 cm with an expansion of at least 5 cm.

All affiliated sports associations have been requested to identify and nominate eligible candidates. The final list of interested sportspersons must be submitted to the NOA office by June 18.

Describing it as a “prestigious opportunity,” the NOA said the initiative offers young athletes a chance to serve the nation while continuing their journey in sports.
