SAS: NU observes 30th parting social
MEDZIPHEMA, JUNE 16 (MExN): The School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus celebrated its 30th Parting Social for 66 BSc (Hons) Ag 4th Year and 84 MSc (Ag) 2nd Year students, with Vyasan R, Agriculture and Production Commissioner, Government of Nagaland as special guest on June 15. Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University also graced the occasion.
Vyasan R, in his speech, expressed his fondness for Nagaland and even spoke in fluent Nagamese, much to the delight of the audience. He advised the students to be the best version of themselves, a press release stated.
“You will definitely fail and fall on the road ahead but what is more important is that you must rise like the resilient crop which withstands all adversities,” he stated.
Vyasan R also encouraged the students to be adventurous and to be solution seekers, which will greatly benefit the farmers. He also opined that whatever knowledge the students may be equipped with, often in the real world the expectations fall short, therefore students must be open minded and must be able to adapt and stand firm and resolute.
Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, in his speech said every milestone is a cause for celebration but one must never become complacent. Hard work, honesty, empathy and sincerity are the hallmarks of success and one must strive to have these qualities engrained in one’s psyche. Only then can one become truly successful and find happiness, he stated.
Prof Akali Sema, Pro Vice Chancellor, SAS: NU, exhorted the students and reminded them to be mindful about comparing themselves to others as each one is unique, talented and accomplished in their own ways.
Welcome address was given by Prof L Daiho, Dean, SAS: NU, and invocation prayer was offered by Abel Domeh, EU President. Silubui spoke on behalf of BSc (Hons) Ag 4th Year, while Vizule Kweho spoke on behalf of MSc (Ag) 2nd Year and Manpha C Konyak spoke on behalf of the remaining students.
On the occasion, special songs were presented by EU: SAS and SU: SAS while the MSc (Ag) 1st year students enthralled the audience with a Manipuri folk dance. Vote of thanks was proposed by Azuto Yepthomi, General Secretary, SU: SAS. Prof. J. Longkumer, Associate Dean, Students’ Welfare, SAS:NU was the chairperson for the event. The School Annual Magazine, “Hill Agri” was also released by the special guest.
