Zunheboto, November 12 (MExN): Sumi Naga festival ‘Ahuna’ - post harvest festival cum Mini Hornbill kick started with Sumi Hoho former president, Dr Hokishe Yeputhomi as the ‘Ahuna Papu’ at Local ground, Zunheboto on November 12.
A DIPR report stated that the three-day event is organised by Sumi Hoho in collaboration with District Administration. Dr Hokishe Yeputhomi while addressing the gathering spoke on the emergence of Ahuna, as a festival and its significance and added, ‘the younger generation should definitely be made aware of the importance of our tradition and culture.’ He appreciated the cultural troops, especially the young students from Bloomfield School and school proprietor for encouraging traditional activities in its institution. He also seeks “Ancestral blessings for the tribe through prayer on behalf of all Sumis to which the gathering chanted aye-ayes.”
The first day was marked by various indigenous competitions, displays and presentations. The main Ahuna Celebration Event will be held on day-three.
