Ahuna Greetings: Call to foster unity and reconciliation

Kohima, November 13 (MExN): On the occasion of Ahuna Festival, Governor of Assam and Nagaland, Prof Jagdish Mukhi extended ‘Ahuna greetings to my Sumi brothers and sisters and to the people of Nagaland.’

The Governor in his message stated that it is celebrated in purity of body and mind, and in gratitude for a bountiful harvest and said, “I believe that the festive spirit of oneness and bonding would restore our faith and lead us towards peace and progress.”

Ahuna celebrations should make the younger generation more aware of the Sumi’s ancient rich history, philosophy of life and culture, and to foster friendship and unity among the community, he urged. 

“On this very significant occasion, I wish you all happiness and good health,” the Governor added. 

Dy CMO: The Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has greeted the Sumi community on the occasion of Ahuna. Patton said that Ahuna is a post harvest festival spent in feasting and merry making, in honour of a bumper harvests after long months of toiling in the fields.

The Dy CM also said that the festival should be a good time to foster unity and reconciliation among brethren. On behalf of the state BJP legislators, the Dy CM conveyed festive greetings and hope that it is celebrated with joy and happiness. 

Azo: Leader of NPF Legislature and Co-Chairman UDA, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu wished greetings to the Sumi community “a happy and fruitful Ahuna Festival celebration, the most significant festival celebrated by the Sumi Naga, a traditional post-harvest festival of the Sumis.”

It is a time to thank to God for His unceasing blessings that He has bestowed upon us for the good harvest, Azo stated in his message. “I prayed and hoped that the festival will brings peace, unity and communal harmony to the community and the people,” Azo stated. 

LJP: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Nagaland unit has extended greetings to the Sumi community on the occasion of Ahuna festival. “May this harvest festival bring peace, unity and prosperity among the Sumi community and Nagas in general,” Media cell UJP Ram Vilas Nagaland said.

NSCN/GPRN (Niki): The NSCN/GPRN (Niki) in its greetings to the Sumi community on the occasion of Ahuna, said, “It is an occasion to thank Almighty God for his unceasing love and blessings for the abundant harvest and to share love and affection to all.”

“As the Sumis celebrate Ahuna in purity of body and mind, and in gratitude for abountiful harvest, may the festive spirit of oneness and bonding would create an atmosphere conducive for peace, harmony and progress of the community and Naga people in general,” NSCN/GPRN (Niki) conveyed. 

NSCN/GPRN (Akato Chophi): The NSCN/GPRN (Akato Chophi) has conveyed greeting on the occasion of Ahuna festival. It stated that Ahuna is a post harvest festival for offering thanksgiving and gratitude for the bountiful year and at the same time to also invoke blessings for the coming year. The festival is observed with exuberant cultural activities and also with songs and dances, followed by feasting and merry making. 

It stated that one of the main highlights of this festival is the grand procession of the 'Mithun' which in Sumi culture signifies the economy and social prosperity. Another major highlight is to cook freshly harvested rice in the Bamboo Pole and shared.

With this Ahuna festival may our Sumi brothers and sisters continue to prosper and also be the guiding force in strength, unity and social bonding among our big Naga family, it added.
