Dimapur, December 29 (MExN): National Coordinator AICC Minority Department I/c Manipur and former Chairman NPCC Minority Department, Nagaland, Rajesh Kumar Sethi on Monday condemned the brutal killing of Anjel Chakma who was attacked in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
“When citizens from the Northeast are made to prove their Indianness, abused for their appearance, and then subjected to violence, it exposes a deep and dangerous collapse of law and order and social accountability,” Sethi stated.
At the same time, he stated that the BJP governments—both in the State and at the Centre—must be held morally and administratively responsible for creating an environment where hate, racial profiling, and impunity are normalised.
Likewise, he stated that it is a serious failure of policing and a classic pattern of institutional apathy towards victims from marginalised regions and communities, if the family’s allegation of delay in registering the FIR is true.
Furthermore, Sethi demanded fast-track trial and strictest punishment for all accused, including those who abetted or helped anyone abscond while calling for the accountability of the local police for any delay or negligence in the initial response, as alleged by the family.
He also called for a national-level action plan to prevent racial profiling and violence against Northeast citizens—sensitisation of police, help lines, safe hostels, verified rental support systems, and strict action against hate campaigns.
