Dimapur, February 21 (MExN): AICC Secretary in charge of Nagaland, Sanjay Bapna has lambasted the DAN Government for its poor governance and workmanship and has questioned the State Government as to where hundreds of crores sanctioned by the Congress led UPA Government at the Centre had “vanished”. This was stated in a press note issued by Roko Chakhesang P.S. to President, NPCC.
“The roads are pathetic. There is constant load shedding, no drinking water supply, education has taken a backseat, women and children are neglected and the condition of the common man’s life is in a deplorable condition under the DAN Government’s rule. There is no semblance of development at all,” Bapna said during the first phase of a Statewide tour with NPCC President I. Imkong which they undertook from February 18 to 20 covering the Districts of Mon, Longleng, Mokokchung and Zunheboto.
Calling upon the Congress workers to start democratic agitations and dharnas against the State Government, Bapna said that the Congress party being a responsible opposition in the State had a moral duty to go to the people at the grassroots, listen to and understand their problems and take up issues with the Govt which concern the welfare of the people.
“There are problems on each and every issue which relates to the people. Ministers in the State Govt and those in power are siphoning off funds and are developing their personal assets. The people should ask from which source are the Ministers developing their assets,” he asserted.
Ruing the apathy of the DAN Govt towards establishment and development of industries in the State, the AICC Secretary said that the State Govt has miserably failed to promote industries, business and commerce. “Insecurity is high here because of rampant extortion. No one from outside wants to invest here. There are no employment opportunities because there are no industries here. The youth who study outside refuse to come back to State as there are no job opportunities and are continuing to stay and work outside. Look at the States ruled by the Congress. Development is very high in those States. There are numerous job opportunities there,” he added.
Dismissing rumors about toppling the DAN Government, Bapna said that the Congress, being an honorable political party, would respect the mandate of the people to stay in the Opposition.
He dissuaded the people from expecting to form a Government in the State at the present juncture and instead challenged the party workers to go on an intensive membership drive and win over the hearts of the people in order to form the Government three years down the line.
Citing Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi’s example of declining positions of power such as Prime Ministership and Cabinet Ministership respectively, Bapna said that it was an example which only they could have set because they are sincerely concerned towards strengthening of the party. “No one will be able to sacrifice like them. We should follow their example and dedicate ourselves to work for the party. Whenever there is some calamity or disaster, Madam Sonia ji is the first to reach and extend relief to the affected people. Rahul ji had declined Cabinet post because he wants to bring the youth of India into active participation in politics,” he said.
The AICC Secretary further explained the process of enrolment and informed the party workers to attach passport photograph to the enrolment forms. He also explained that the AICC in its meeting last year had decided to do away with ‘active’ and ‘primary’ membership and henceforth there would be only a single form of membership.
Informing that the Congress party which was formed on December 28, 1885 would complete 125 years of service to the Nation on December 28, 2010, he conveyed good wishes of AICC President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and AICC General Secretary and M.P. Rahul Gandhi to the people of Nagaland.
