AIDA-Don Bosco hosts career guidance session for youth in Dimapur

A total of 25 aspirants took part in a career guidance session on competitive examinations, held at AIDA, Don Bosco, Dimapur on June 27. Employment Officer of the Dimapur District Employment Exchange, Nibizo Nagi, and Fr Dr AJ Sebastian SDB, Retired Professor and former Head of the English Department, Nagaland Central University, Kohima, served as resource persons, enriching young minds with knowledgeand renewed purpose in their pursuit of civil service.

The event was organised by the ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA)–Don Bosco Job Placement Network, Dimapur, in collaboration with the District Employment Exchange Dimapur and Model Career Centre Dimapur. It aimed to support aspiring candidatesin navigating the often challenging and uncertain journey of preparing for competitive exams.

Sharing insights with the participants, Rev Fr Dr AJ Sebastian SDB encouraged them to believe in themselves, build competency, and aim high. He stated that self-discipline, determination, and dreaming big are key ingredients for success.

While recounting his personal experience as a former civil service aspirant, Nibizo Nagi highlighted the value of interactive programmes as spaces for learning and confidence-building.

He pointed out strategic planning, mental readiness, and perseverance as essential keys to success, while also emphasising the importance of embracing failures as stepping stones. For fresh graduates planning to prepare for civil service examinations, Nagi advised taking time to reflect on their goals clearly. He also observed that preparing for exams has become almost synonymous with unemployment among Naga youths. “Be clear about your goals, and then when you act on it, in whatever path you take, you have to give your 100 percent,” he asserted.

Earlier in the seminar, Rev Fr Dr Roy George SDB, Executive Director of AIDA, Dimapur, spoke about services rendered by the AIDA–Don Bosco Job Placement Network (DBJPN) over the years, and shared the vision behind establishing a dedicated study centre for competitive exam preparation.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Sebi Chacko, Program Coordinator of AIDA–DBJPN, urged aspirants to make full use of the AIDA–JPN Competitive Study Centre, describing it as one of the most effective platforms in the region for exam preparation.

During the last session, Fr Sebastian presented key lessons from his student guidebook ‘Grooming to Bloom,’ stressing the importance of time management, memory development, and a balanced, holistic approach to growth. He advocated for a lifestyle that supports not only academic achievement but also mental and physical well-being. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session. In a gesture of support, Fr Sebastian also donated over 150 books to the AIDA–JPN Study Centre.
