AKM and SKK retracts shutdown announcement

Zunheboto/Mokokchung, FEBRUARY 26 (MExN): The Ao Students' Conference (AKM) and All Sumi Students' Union (SKK) has retracted a message informing about a move to indefinitely impose shutdown of government offices and educational institutions in Zunheboto and Mokokchung districts beginning February 27. As per the message, which circulated on social media, the move was being made to express resentment against the School Education Advisor, Dr Kekhrie Yhome and the state government in the wake of Dr Yhome’s controversial statements made on February 6 and 16.

In light of Dr Yhome’s apology, “we hereby declare that the proposed shutdown stands nullified,” stated the SKK and AKM in a joint statement to the media. While appreciating the apology extended, they cited the importance of maintaining dialogue and constructive engagement in addressing concerns affecting “our communities.”

Having acknowledged the apology, they said that all government offices and educational institutions in Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts will operate as usual.
