The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) carried out a ‘surprise checking of AKM census cards’ in Mokokchung town today as part of its Survival Mokokchung campaign. The cards are given to ILP holders by the AKM in Mokokchung.

According to Sünglem Walling, AKM Vice President and Convener of Survival Mokokchung, more than 100 defaulters without the AKM census cards were detected during the drive today among which a number of ILP defaulters were also detected. He added that some of the ILP defaulters were without any valid identity cards.

Walling informed that Survival Mokokchung was launched by the AKM in 2007 to check the menace of unabated illegal immigrants that was posing a threat to the indigenous peoples of the district. Stating that the drive carried out today was not a one-off event but a routine exercise, he further added that similar surprise checks would be conducted from time to time.

Meanwhile, president of AKM, Imkongwati informed that locals should be wary of casually standing as guarantors for random ILP holders. He warned that the local guarantors would be equally held responsible in the event of an ILP holder committing a crime or is caught involved in anti-social activities.
