AKM resumes 9th edition of Survival Mkg

Warns citizens against harbouring illegal migrants

Dimapur, May 7 (MExN): The 9th edition of ‘Survival Mokokchung Drive’ of Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) resumed at AKM Office Complex, Mokokchung on May 5. The drive will conclude on May 10.   The AKM was compelled to undertake the “dicey path” of checking illegal immigrants by launching the ‘Survival Mokokchung Drive’ after witnessing the “blooming infiltration” and foreseeing the ensuing dangers, the students’ organisation said in a statement issued through its General Secretary Bendangkumba Aier and Vice President Akummeren Longchar.
“The vigilant step that left no stone unturned in conducting intensive campaign both sensitizing the general public and also conducting non local census drive has led to risk of many life and expenses” but resulted in deportation of large numbers of illegal immigrants from Mokokchung District, it said.   The drastic step has created a certain doubt in the minds of non-indigenous citizens as well as enmity amongst the Ao Community “who in contrary has shielded those illegal immigrants for their personal benefits,” it added.   However, AKM maintained that the drive is not a campaign of AKM alone but the contribution and support of the people and also the logistic inputs from intelligentsia has contributed to its successful implementation reaching its 9th edition till date.   It is not only a routine drive but a quest to make people aware of the dangers created by the illegal Immigrants and also an effort to free the Ao country and create conducive atmosphere for all concerned Indian citizens who are working in different spectra in Mokokchung from the threat of illegal Immigrants, AKM further stressed.   The current drive, AKM said, will cover far deep down the border areas of Mokokchung district sensitizing general public and conducting census.   In this connection, the organisation warned all the indigenous Nagas residing in Mokokchung town that “any person or group harbouring those illegal Immigrants will be dealt sternly and treated as a betrayal to the community.”   AKM also informed that all the “non local community” who does not possess necessary documents proving himself/herself as a genuine Indian citizen will be handed over to the law enforcing agencies and deported immediately.
