AKMWP clean up Box Cutting area in Kohima

Members of All Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) today cleaned up the Box Cutting area in the capital. 

The said area was recently approved for adoption by the wards panchayat by the District Planning and Development Board in October. 

As a first step towards face-lifting the area, AKMWP President, Thejao Sekhose told The Morung Express that plantation and beautification will be undertaken after weed and wastes are cleared in the area.

He said that the Box Cutting Road stretch which is about 700 metres is located in the heart of Kohima near War Cemetery Kohima but has been left unattended with waste and weed covering the area. He stressed that people have been using for anti social activities in the said stretch. 

Kiewhuo said that the AKMWP has earlier pursued with the government to utilise the area would be maintained to beautify, keep it clean, decent and allow people to have a sense of belonging and safety. Sitting areas will also be constructed in the said area. 
He added that a master plan would be brought out to take the initiative forward after getting the area demarcation is given by the government on both sides of the box cutting road stretch. 

Around 100 members from all the 19 wards and AKMWP members participated in the cleanliness drive. 

The DPDB meeting last month reviewed the agenda of “Adoption of Box cutting area” by the Association of All Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat and agreed to issue approval letter with necessary terms and conditions after proper consultation with the Administration and Kohima Municipal Council.
