Kohima, July 12 (MExN): The Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) has issued a press statement in regard to traffic control in Kohima. AKMWP, President, Neibulie Kiewhuo and Secretary, Thejao Sekhose said in the statement that the matter was deliberately discussed along with Deputy SP (Traffic), KMC officials and Kohima ward chairman at KMC conference hall on March 3, 2016.
The Panchayat mentioned that the house shared their opinion and suggested corrective measures by respective ward chairman and also specifically pointed out that, the approach road from Mezhur Higher secondary school to the national highway, a ‘No Left Turn’ sign board was placed right at the ‘V’ junction, where traffic police are also deputed to control the traffic.
However, the AKMWP stated that, traffic police on duty at the spot stop the vehicles coming and going towards town and BOC side and allow the vehicle to take the left and right turn which causes traffic jam from both sides. The same case is also witnessed at the approach from Midland to national highway near Dr. Dietho-o’s Pharmacy.
“Despite, taking note of the suggestion from the house by the Deputy SP (Traffic) and assuring to look into the suggestions, even after more than three months, the same traffic violation are still continuing till date,” the AKMWP lamented.
While requesting the Kohima traffic police in particular and the public in general to be a part of easing traffic in our Town, AKMWP requested to address the issue and added, “the traffic police are facing shortage of manpower and the lack of CIVIC sense from the public, but collectively if we put a little bit of effort, we can surely achieve some progress.”
